How to Select a Trailer Hitch
Why a crossover often lands on a Class 3 card with a 2 inch receiver even when the door sticker keeps trailer weight modest.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a BMW X3 in Canada? Match the generation first. On this store we list CURT 13573 for 2004 through 2010, and CURT 13316 for 2011 through 2017. Both are Class 3 hitches with a 2 inch receiver, and both are in stock today. Newer X3 years after 2017 need an honest pause — CURT publishes a later card we do not list here yet. Wiring is thin on this shelf too, so we will say that plainly.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use them for class selection, install habits, wiring basics, and ball-mount height before you dig into the cards below.
If an embed does not load, use the YouTube link under the card.

Watch on YouTube →General install habits. Finish with the instruction sheet for your exact year card — generations are not interchangeable.
Watch on YouTube →Useful before you order a custom four-flat, or while you wait on a harness we do not stock for your year yet.
Watch on YouTube →Published Class 3 cards here use a 2 inch opening. Match the shank to the tube you actually bolt on, then set drop so the trailer sits level.
Watch on YouTube →CURT 13573 is the Class 3 hitch we list for first-generation X3 years 2004 through 2010. It uses a 2 inch receiver. Install is a professional-leaning job on that card, so budget time and a torque wrench rather than treating it like a ten-minute bolt-on.
CURT 13316 covers second-generation X3 years 2011 through 2017 on the product card, and it also lists matching X4 years. Same idea: Class 3, 2 inch receiver, vehicle-specific fit. Both hitches are active and in stock on Lots of Parts today.
For 2018 and newer X3 years, CURT publishes Class 3 card 13578 in its catalogue. We do not currently list 13578 on this store, so we are not inventing a product link. If your door sticker is 2018 or newer, ask support or use Shop by Vehicle rather than forcing 13316 onto a later bumper.
We do not list an X3-specific custom four-flat harness on this shelf today. Read the wiring guide and ask support instead of guessing with a universal converter. Hitch-side numbers still lose to BMW’s published tow and tongue limits for your trim.

These are the BMW X3 hitch year pages we publish today. There is no 2016 lander, and nothing after 2017. Confirm the year on the product card before you buy.
13573 for early years, 13316 for 2011 through 2017. Do not mix them just because both say Class 3.
CURT’s later X3 card is real in the wider catalogue. It is simply not active on Lots of Parts in this pass.
Trailer lights still matter. Without an X3 custom four-flat on the shelf, ask support rather than splicing blind.
Even with a Class 3 tube, BMW’s tow and tongue numbers for your trim still win — especially on M packages and hybrid notes.
Use the landers above when they match your X3 door sticker.
Read the year list on the live product card before you add anything to the cart.
If we do not list an X3 harness, use the wiring guide or ask support.
Match a 2 inch shank and set drop so the trailer sits level on Canadian roads.
