BMW X5 Trailer Hitch Buyer’s Guide (Canada)

Shopping a trailer hitch for a BMW X5 in Canada? Match the generation first. On this store we list CURT 13162 for 2000 through 2006, and CURT 13077 for 2007 through 2018. Both are Class 3 hitches with a 2 inch receiver, and both are in stock today. Newer X5 years after 2018 need an honest pause — we are not inventing a later product link. Wiring is thin on this shelf too, so we will say that plainly.

What we stock for the X5

CURT 13162 is the Class 3 hitch we list for first-generation X5 years 2000 through 2006. It uses a 2 inch receiver. Treat install as a professional-leaning job on that older bumper design, and finish with the instruction sheet rather than a generic forum write-up.

CURT 13077 covers second and third-generation X5 years that CURT writes as 2007 through 2018 on the product card. The same card also lists matching X6 years, so read the application carefully if you are not in an X5. Same idea: Class 3, 2 inch receiver, vehicle-specific fit. Both hitches are active and in stock on Lots of Parts today, with strong shelf quantity on 13077.

For 2019 and newer X5 years, we do not currently list a later Class 3 card on this store. Ask support or use Shop by Vehicle rather than forcing 13077 onto a later bumper. We also do not list an X5-specific custom four-flat harness on this shelf today. Hitch-side numbers still lose to BMW’s published tow and tongue limits for your trim.

Honest gaps and shopper notes

Generation

Two live hitch cards

13162 for early years, 13077 for 2007 through 2018. Do not mix them just because both say Class 3.

Later years

2019 and newer gap

We do not list a later X5 Class 3 card here yet. Prefer support or Shop by Vehicle over forcing 13077 forward.

Wiring

Harness not listed

Trailer lights still matter. Without an X5 custom four-flat on the shelf, ask support rather than splicing blind.

X6 note

Shared 13077 card

CURT 13077 also lists matching X6 years. Confirm the badge on the product page if you are not shopping an X5.

Step 1Open your year

Use the landers above when they match your X5 door sticker.

Step 2Pick 13162 or 13077

Read the year list on the live product card before you add anything to the cart.

Step 3Plan wiring honestly

If we do not list an X5 harness, use the wiring guide or ask support.

Step 4Set the ball mount

Match a 2 inch shank and set drop so the trailer sits level on Canadian roads.
