How to Select a Trailer Hitch
Why a full-size sedan like the Impala often lands on a Class 2 receiver for bike racks and light trailers, then still respects the door-sticker tow limit.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a Chevrolet Impala in Canada? Start with the year on the door sticker, and note whether you have a classic Impala, an Impala Limited, or a later tenth-generation sedan before you open a CURT Class 2 card. We stock CURT 12252 for listed 2000 through 2013 Impala years plus listed 2014 through 2016 Impala Limited years, and CURT 12115 for listed 2014 through 2020 Impala years on a shared multi-vehicle card. Dedicated Impala wiring spans CURT 56116, CURT 56046, and CURT 56188 across those windows.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use them for class selection, install habits, wiring basics, and ball-mount height before you dig into the Impala cards below.

Watch on YouTube →Read the year and trim name carefully. Early Impalas in the listed 2000 through 2013 window, plus Impala Limited in the listed 2014 through 2016 window, open CURT 12252. Later Impalas in the listed 2014 through 2020 window open CURT 12115, which shares that Class 2 card with listed Malibu, Lacrosse, Regal, and XTS years. Both hitch cards use a one and one quarter inch receiver tube. 12252 is written with a concealed main body. Class 2 here is still a light-to-moderate sedan path, not a truck Class 3 story.
CURT 56116 covers listed 2000 through 2005 Impala years. CURT 56046 covers listed 2006 through 2013 Impala years plus listed 2014 through 2016 Impala Limited. CURT 56188 covers listed 2014 through 2020 Impala years. Match the harness window to the hitch window instead of mixing early and later cards.

| Impala versus Limited | Limited years ride with 12252 and 56046. Later regular Impala years open 12115 and 56188. Read the trim name. |
| Shared 12115 card | 12115 also lists Malibu, Lacrosse, Regal, and XTS. Confirm Impala is on the live card before you buy. |
