CURT Sierra 1500 Install
Official CURT install filmed on a GMC Sierra 1500. Useful technique even when your year points to a different part number on the shelf.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a GMC Sierra in Canada starts with one honest fork in the road: is it a Sierra 1500, or a Sierra 2500 HD or 3500 HD? The frames, hitch cards, and factory-receiver notes are not the same. This guide maps the CURT receivers we actually stock for each side of that split, the year pages that are live, and the exclusions that matter before you order.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Two are Sierra-badged installs, one is the Class 4 Silverado install that matches the same 2014–2018 GM 1500 card we stock for Sierra, and one is the older HD Class 3 install that still teaches frame-bolt habits. A dedicated install for every late Sierra SKU is not on the channel today.

Watch on YouTube →CURT filmed 14006 on a Silverado. The same Class 4 card also lists 2014–2018 Sierra 1500 — still follow the sheet for your truck.
Watch on YouTube →HD frame bolts and fishwire habits for the older Class 3 card that also covers listed Sierra HD years. Watch before you lift a heavy receiver alone.
Watch on YouTube →Quick primer before you pick Class 3, Class 4, or a higher-capacity path for the Sierra years we cover.
Watch on YouTube →A Sierra 1500 is the half-ton. Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD are the heavy-duty trucks. CURT does not treat them as one interchangeable listing. Half-ton cards talk about factory receivers on late trucks. HD cards often call out bed length, and Shopify titles sometimes list Silverado first even when the CURT application also includes Sierra HD — always read the fitment line, not just the badge in the thumbnail.
Everyday towing, boats, utility trailers, and campers within the truck’s published rating. Late trucks often need you to know whether a factory receiver is already on the bumper before you pick CURT 13393 or CURT 15307.
Heavier frames and higher hitch ratings on the cards we stock. Confirm bed length when the CURT note calls out a 6.5 foot bed. Do not order a 1500 Class 3 and hope it bolts to an HD.
We publish Sierra 1500 hitch year pages from 1999 through 2026, including Limited years where those landers exist. The table below sticks to the main CURT receivers on the shelf today — not every historical SKU ever made.
| Years | What we usually stock |
|---|---|
| 2019–2026 Sierra 1500 | Without a factory receiver: Class 3 CURT 13393 with a 2 inch receiver (card ratings typically about 6,000 lb trailer and 600 lb tongue, with a higher weight-distribution rating on the same card). With a factory receiver and a need for a higher-capacity aftermarket path: Class 5 CURT 15307 (card ratings much higher — still limited by the truck). Wiring extension often pairs with CURT 56072 on listed late GM 1500 and HD years. |
| 2014–2018 Sierra 1500 | Class 3: CURT 13175 (and the broader CURT 13301 span). Need more hitch hardware capacity on that generation? Class 4 CURT 14006 — watch the official install above. Typical Class 3 brochure numbers sit around 6,000 lb trailer and 600 lb tongue; Class 4 14006 sits higher on the hitch card. The truck’s tow and payload ratings still win. |
| 2007–2013 Sierra 1500 | Class 3 coverage through CURT 13301 on the shared Silverado and Sierra card. Confirm cab, bed, and bumper notes on your year page before you buy. |
| Older Sierra 1500 | Earlier half-ton landers are live back through 1999. Older Class 5 hardware such as CURT 15323 shows up on some early GM 1500 applications — read the exclusions carefully, because some rows also touch early 2500 listings. |
CURT 13393 is written for trucks excluding a factory receiver. CURT 15307 is written for trucks with a factory receiver. Mixing those two up is the most common late-Sierra ordering mistake we see.
HD year pages for Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD are live across the same modern range as the half-ton. Shopify product titles often lead with Chevrolet Silverado HD even when the CURT description lists Silverado and Sierra HD together — that is a catalogue wording quirk, not a reason to skip the Sierra fitment line.
| Years | What we usually stock |
|---|---|
| 2020–2026 Sierra HD | Class 3: CURT 13447 (typically about 8,000 lb trailer and 800 lb tongue on the hitch card). Class 4: CURT 14005 (typically about 10,000 lb trailer and 1,000 lb tongue on the hitch card). Confirm 2500 HD versus 3500 HD on the application. |
| 2015–2019 Sierra HD | Class 3: CURT 13178 — CURT calls out the 6.5 foot bed on this card. Do not guess bed length from a photo. |
| 2011–2014 Sierra HD | Class 3: CURT 13062 with the same bed-length honesty. Measure the bed or read the door sticker before you order. |
| 2001–2010 Sierra HD | Class 3 path: CURT 13208. Class 4 example on early HD: CURT 14108. Higher-capacity Class 5 example: CURT 15302 on listed 6.5 foot HD applications. Watch the HD install video above for frame habits. |
We keep separate landers for Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD. Here is a practical sampling across recent years — open your exact year from the same pattern if it is not listed here.
CURT 13393 excludes factory receiver. CURT 15307 requires one. Look under the bumper before you click buy.
Several HD SKUs call out a 6.5 foot bed. A different bed can mean a different hitch — or no fit.
Some Shopify titles lead with Silverado HD while the CURT text still lists Sierra HD. Trust the application line.
Hitch brochure numbers are not a free upgrade past GMC’s tow, payload, and tongue limits for your VIN.
