Honda Civic Trailer Hitch Buyer’s Guide (Canada)

Shopping a trailer hitch for a Honda Civic in Canada? Be upfront with yourself: our catalog stocks Class 1 receivers for Civic, not Class 3 tow packages. This guide covers the 2001 through 2026 year landers we publish, explains the light-duty CURT options we actually sell, and keeps exhaust and hybrid exclusions easy to catch before you order.

Built for Canadian Civic owners. Free shipping on CURT towing gear from Lots of Parts. New to hitches? Start with the buying guide, bike rack and cargo carrier guide, and wiring guide. Or open the towing guides hub.

Honest Civic hitch expectations

Honda Civic is a compact car. The CURT receivers we stock for it are Class 1 only with a 1.25 inch tube. That is the right tool for a bike rack or a light cargo carrier, not for towing a travel trailer. Our store does not currently list a Class 2 or Class 3 Civic hitch SKU, so this guide will not pretend otherwise.

Newer CURT 11591 cards also call out exclusions for hybrid and center-exhaust configurations. Sedan, coupe, and hatchback applications can split across different SKUs in the 2016-and-newer years, so read the year rows carefully.

Years What we usually stock
2016–2026 Primary Class 1: CURT 11591 (up to 2,000 lb GTW and 200 lb tongue on the card). Excludes hybrid and center exhaust on the listing. Related body-style options: CURT 11604 for listed sedan years and CURT 11463 for listed coupe and hatchback years. Wiring: CURT 56396 (sedan) and CURT 56324 (coupe) where years align.
2006–2015 Class 1: CURT 11391 with shared ILX listings on the card. Wiring: CURT 56051 (hybrid excluded on that harness card).
2001–2005 Class 1: CURT 11204 for earlier Civic applications. Related older wiring may point to CURT 56011 when Civic years match the card.

Never exceed Honda’s accessory and tongue limits for your Civic. A Class 1 hitch rating is still limited by the car underneath it.

Canada checklist

  • Class 1 is the ceiling here — Civic hitch shopping on our shelves stays light-duty.
  • Hybrid and center exhaust matter on CURT 11591 — do not force a mismatched SKU.
  • Body style matters — sedan wiring and coupe wiring are not interchangeable by guesswork.
  • Plan for salt season — rinse the open-back receiver and protect the wiring plug when you can.
