The KL Cherokee (2014 and newer), the classic XJ Cherokee, and the Liberty era each use different CURT receivers — and our year landers do not cover every model year. Name the generation before you shop

Jeep reused the Cherokee name across very different platforms. A 2018 KL Cherokee does not share a hitch with a 2000 XJ, and Liberty is its own line with its own year pages. Grand Cherokee is another vehicle entirely — use the Grand Cherokee buyer’s guide if that is what you drive.

KL Cherokee · 2014–2019 landers Class 3 rear: CURT 13171 for listed 2014–2019 years (about 5,000 lb trailer and 750 lb tongue on the card, with weight-distribution figures listed). CURT 13172 covers listed 2014–2018 years with a concealed main body for a cleaner look. Both use a 2 inch receiver opening. Confirm notes on the card.
KL wiring and brakes CURT 56208 and CURT 58909 for listed 2014–2018 light paths. CURT 58963 covers listed 2019–2023 RV harness years. Brake-controller plugs: CURT 51459 and CURT 51460 — those are not trailer-light harnesses.
XJ Cherokee · landers 1999–2001 Class 3 rear options for listed 1984–2001 Cherokee: CURT 13084 (concealed body) and CURT 13160. We only publish hitch year landers for 1999–2001. Wiring: CURT 55354 for listed 1997–2001 years.
Liberty · landers 2002–2012 Class 3: CURT 13044 for 2002–2007, and CURT 13245 for 2008–2012 (watch the CURT install above). Wiring: CURT 55382 and CURT 56334 (shared Nitro notes on the later card).

Never exceed Jeep’s tow rating for your drivetrain and tow package. A hitch does not raise the vehicle’s limit. The lowest number among vehicle rating, hitch rating, ball mount, and trailer rating wins.

Honest lander gaps

We publish KL Cherokee hitch year pages for 2014 through 2019 only. 2020 through 2023 Cherokee hitch landers are not live even though some wiring and brake-harness cards list later years — open the product card and confirm fitment instead of inventing a year page. XJ landers stop at 1999–2001 even though the hitch cards list 1984–2001. Liberty landers run 2002 through 2012.

  • Believe Jeep’s tow rating for your trim and tow package — it beats any hitch brochure.
  • Plan for salt season — rinse the receiver and plug it when spring arrives.
  • Later KL owners should know 2020–2023 hitch landers are not live — use the product card, not a borrowed earlier year page.
