CX-5 years and hitch shopping

CX-5 hitch shopping is unusually stable: CURT lists Class 3 CURT 13315 and Class 2 CURT 12170 across 2013 through 2025 on the cards we stock, with diesel excluded on the Class 3 listing. Mazda’s CX-5 tow rating is modest compared with larger SUVs, so size the trailer to the vehicle first, then pick the receiver class that matches the work. We publish year landers through 2025; a 2026 CX-5 hitch lander is not live yet.

Years What we usually stock
2013–2025 Class 3: CURT 13315 with a two-inch receiver (up to 4,000 lb GTW and 600 lb tongue on the card; diesel excluded). Class 2: CURT 12170 with a 1.25 inch receiver for lighter racks. Wiring: CURT 56310 listed for 2016 CX-5 on the card.
2026 A dedicated 2026 CX-5 hitch lander is not published yet. Confirm future fitment on Shop by Vehicle and the CURT cards above before you assume carry-over.

Never exceed Mazda’s tow rating for your trim and drivetrain. A hitch rating is not permission to tow heavier than the CX-5 was designed for.

Class 2 versus Class 3 for CX-5

Class 3

CURT 13315 · 2 inch receiver

Primary Class 3 we stock for 2013 through 2025 CX-5, diesel excluded. Stock link: CURT 13315.

  • Better for trailers and two-inch accessories
  • Read the diesel exclusion carefully
  • Always respect Mazda’s tow and tongue limits
Class 2

CURT 12170 · 1.25 inch receiver

Lighter Class 2 path for 2013 through 2025 when you mainly need racks. Stock link: CURT 12170.

  • Smaller receiver than the Class 3 option
  • Shown alongside 13315 in the official CURT CX-5 video
  • Use the ball mount guide if you tow
Wiring

CURT 56310 · 2016

Custom harness listed for 2016 CX-5 on the card we stock. Stock link: CURT 56310.

  • Confirm the year on the product card
  • Bike racks alone often skip trailer wiring
  • Use the wiring guide for other years
Honest limits

Vehicle rating wins

Mazda publishes modest CX-5 tow numbers. Size the trailer to that limit first, then choose Class 2 or Class 3 for the accessories you actually use.

  • Hitch class is not a tow package
  • Diesel CX-5 is excluded on CURT 13315
  • 2026 lander is not live yet

Simple setup steps

Step 1Open your year

Use the 2013–2025 landers above so you land on the hitch pair that fits your CX-5.

Step 2Pick Class 2 or Class 3

Two-inch Class 3 for trailers and common accessories; 1.25 inch Class 2 for lighter racks.

Step 3Check diesel notes

CURT 13315 excludes diesel on the card we stock. Do not force that SKU onto an excluded diesel CX-5.

Step 4Add lights and a ball mount

Use the wiring guide and the ball mount guide.

Canada checklist

  • Believe Mazda’s tow rating for your trim — it beats any hitch brochure.
  • Diesel matters on CURT 13315 — confirm exclusions before you order.
  • 2026 is not published yet as a CX-5 hitch lander on our site.
  • Plan for salt season — rinse the open-back receiver and protect the wiring plug when you can.
