How to Select a Trailer Hitch
Why a mid-size Mitsubishi SUV often lands on a Class 3 card with a 2 inch receiver, and why vehicle tow ratings still win over hitch-side numbers.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a Mitsubishi Outlander in Canada? The third-generation years (roughly 2014 through 2020 on CURT’s card) already have a live Class 3 hitch and year pages on this store. The redesigned Outlander that CURT lists from 2022 onward has its own Class 3 hitch and matching four-flat wiring — both live here too. Outlander Sport is a different vehicle with different SKUs. Plug-in Outlander years need a careful wiring check. This guide separates those paths so you do not order the wrong generation.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use them for class selection, install habits, wiring basics, and ball-mount height before you dig into the cards below.

Watch on YouTube →General install habits. Finish with the instruction sheet for your exact Outlander year card — 2014 through 2020 hardware notes and 2022-and-up notes are not interchangeable.
Watch on YouTube →Useful before you order the redesigned Outlander four-flat we stock, or the separate plug-in harness when your badge says PHEV.
Watch on YouTube →Published Outlander Class 3 cards use a 2 inch opening. Match the shank to the tube you bolt on, then set drop so the trailer sits level.
Watch on YouTube →For listed 2014 through 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander years (Sport and many PHEV notes sit on other cards), CURT 13163 is a Class 3 hitch with a 2 inch receiver. Hitch-side numbers on that family sit around 4,000 lb trailer and 600 lb tongue, with a matching weight-distribution note on CURT’s card. Mitsubishi’s published tow and tongue numbers for your trim still win. That hitch is active on Lots of Parts today.
For the redesigned Outlander that CURT lists for 2022 through 2026, CURT 13487 is the published Class 3 hitch with a 2 inch receiver. Hitch-side numbers on that card sit around 3,500 lb trailer and 525 lb tongue. It is also active here. CURT 56467 is the custom four-flat wiring harness written for those same redesigned years, and it is active as well.
Plug-in Outlander years are easy to mix up at the parts counter. CURT 56434 is a live four-flat that lists Outlander PHEV years alongside RAV4 coverage. If your Outlander is a PHEV, confirm the harness notes and the hitch card exclusions before you order a gas-only path. The hybrid towing guide is worth a skim.
Outlander Sport (and the related RVR badge in some markets) is not the same as a full-size Outlander. We stock CURT 13079 as a Class 3 option for listed Sport and RVR years — useful when someone walks in with the wrong model name on their phone.

| CURT 56434 PHEV four-flat | Active — linked above when your Outlander is a listed plug-in year on that card. |
| Outlander Sport path | Different vehicle. Live Class 3 option: CURT 13079. Do not order a full Outlander hitch for a Sport. |
| Year landers | Live Outlander hitch year pages for 2014 through 2020, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026. No 2021 or 2024 Outlander landers are live — we are not inventing those URLs. |
These year landers already exist on Lots of Parts. Use them when your model year matches. 2021 and 2024 Outlander landers are not published here yet.
13163 covers listed 2014 through 2020 years. 13487 covers listed 2022 through 2026 years. Bolting the wrong one is a wasted weekend.
Gas Outlander wiring and PHEV wiring are not the same conversation. Start with the door sticker, then confirm 56467 versus 56434.
We have plenty of Outlander landers, but not those two years. We do not invent missing lander URLs.
Sport and RVR shoppers belong on the Sport card (13079 path), not on the full Outlander hitch.
