How to Select a Trailer Hitch
Why sedan shoppers still land on a two inch Class 3 receiver for light trailers and accessories, then respect the door-sticker tow limit.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a Subaru Legacy sedan in Canada? Start with the model year on the door sticker, then pick the CURT Class 3 card that actually lists Legacy — not just the Outback wagon card you already saw in a forum thread. We stock a real Legacy shelf today: CURT 13494 Class 3 for listed 2020 through 2025 Legacy years (shared with Outback on the same card), CURT 13390 Class 3 for listed 2015 through 2019 Legacy years, CURT 13158 Class 3 for the dedicated 2010 through 2014 Legacy window, plus older Class 2 paths and CURT 56246 four-flat wiring for the 2015 through 2019 Legacy sedan.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use them for class selection, install habits, wiring basics, and ball-mount height before you dig into the Legacy cards below.

CURT 13494 is the deep in-stock Class 3 for listed 2020 through 2025 Legacy years — the same steel card also lists Outback, so confirm Legacy appears on the years before you click Add. CURT 13390 covers listed 2015 through 2019 Legacy years on its Class 3 card. CURT 13158 is the dedicated Class 3 path for 2010 through 2014 Legacy sedans when you do not want to borrow an Outback story.
Older Legacies still on Canadian roads often land on Class 2 cards: CURT 12284 for listed 2005 through 2009 Legacy years shared with Outback, and CURT 12270 for the older Legacy and Outback window on that card. Class 2 is enough for many bike racks and light utility trailers. Class 3 gives you the two inch receiver most Canadian shops stock mounts for — still not a blank cheque past the door sticker.
Wiring is generation-honest. CURT 56246 is the dedicated Legacy sedan four-flat we stock for listed 2015 through 2019 years. The common Subaru 56040 harness on the Outback guide lists Outback wagon and other Subarus — it does not cleanly rewrite itself into a Legacy sedan card. For 2020 and newer Legacy sedans, dedicated sedan wiring is not cleanly listed beside 13494 the way 56246 covers the prior generation. Confirm lights fitment on the product card, or plan a shop conversation, instead of inventing a harness SKU here.
Keep Outback shopping on the Outback buyers guide. Same AWD family, different body, different year landers. We publish Legacy year pages for 1999 through 2021 and 2023 through 2025 — there is no 2022 Legacy hitch lander on this store yet, and we will not invent one.

These are the Legacy hitch year pages we publish today. Confirm the product-card years before you buy. We do not invent a 2022 lander or post-2025 pages that are not on this list yet.
A Class 3 receiver helps with mounts and light trailers. The Subaru tow rating on the sticker still sets the ceiling.
Shared hitch cards exist — year landers and sedan wiring notes still belong on this Legacy page.
2015 through 2019 sedan wiring is stocked. Newer dedicated sedan harness stays Not cleanly listed.
