CURT Install Techniques
Solid habits for bolting a Class 3 receiver. Useful when you install CURT 13445 or CURT 13087 on an older 4Runner.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a Toyota 4Runner in Canada? This guide covers the 2000 through 2009 years we publish as landers, explains CURT 13445 and CURT 13087 by generation, and keeps wiring, brake-harness, and ball-mount choices grounded in what is actually live in the store.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). CURT has not posted dedicated 13445 or 13087 4Runner install clips yet, so start with install techniques, hitch selection, ball-mount, and hardware primers.

| Years | What we usually stock |
|---|---|
| 2003–2009 | Class 3: CURT 13445 (also lists Lexus GX470). Expect tow-hook removal and exhaust clearance work on many installs. Brake-control harness example: CURT 51363 for listed Toyota and Lexus years including 4Runner. |
| 2000–2002 (and 1996–2002) | Class 3: CURT 13087. Wiring example: CURT 55341 for listed years. Our landers start at 2000. |
| Earlier classics | Older kits such as CURT 13094 (1992–1995) and CURT 13024 (1987–1991) are in the store, but we do not publish matching year landers for those decades. |
| 2010-and-newer | Later fifth-gen and newer trucks. Dedicated hitch year pages are not published yet. Use the trailer hitches collection and contact us if you need help matching a late 4Runner. CURT 51363 may still list brake-harness years on its card. |
Never exceed the vehicle maker’s tow rating for your trim, drivetrain, and tow package. A hitch rating is not a blank cheque to tow heavier than the SUV was designed for.
