Volvo XC90 Trailer Hitch Buyer’s Guide (Canada)

Shopping a trailer hitch for a Volvo XC90 in Canada? Treat the first generation and the second generation as different counters. For 2003 through 2014 we stock CURT 13559 as the Class 3 hitch, with CURT 56045 as the matching wiring on many of those years. For 2016 and newer we stock CURT 13233 as the Class 3 hitch, with CURT 56285 as the four-flat wiring. There is no 2015 XC90 hitch lander on this store — that gap year sits between the two generations.

What CURT lists versus what we stock

First-generation XC90 shoppers usually land on CURT 13559 — a Class 3 hitch with a 2 inch receiver written for 2003 through 2014. That hitch is active and in stock here. CURT 56045 is the trailer wiring harness we list for 2005 through 2014 XC90 years. If your early XC90 is 2003 or 2004, confirm wiring separately rather than assuming 56045 covers every early year.

Second-generation XC90 shoppers usually land on CURT 13233 — a Class 3 hitch written for 2016 through 2025 on the product card. That hitch is also active and in stock. CURT 56285 is the four-flat wiring we list for 2016 through 2025 XC90 years (the same harness card also notes listed S90 years). Confirm XC90 versus S90 on the card before you buy.

CURT 13467 is another live Class 3 card that includes listed 2016 through 2020 XC90 years alongside some XC60 years. If your year appears on both 13233 and 13467, read both cards and pick the application that matches your exact vehicle — do not assume they are interchangeable with every accessory package.

CURT 13268 is primarily an XC60 hitch that also notes a 2017 XC90 line on the title. Treat it as an XC60-first card. If you drive an XC90, prefer 13559 or 13233 by generation unless the year page clearly points elsewhere.

Years What we usually stock
2003 through 2014 Class 3 hitch: CURT 13559. Wiring: CURT 56045 for 2005 through 2014. Live year landers for 2003 through 2014.
2015 No XC90 hitch lander on this store. Gap year between generations. Use Shop by Vehicle or ask support rather than inventing a URL.
2016 through 2025 Class 3 hitch: CURT 13233. Wiring: CURT 56285. Live year landers for 2016 through 2025. Also see CURT 13467 if your early second-gen year appears on that card.

Honest gaps and shopper notes

Generations

Do not mix cards

13559 belongs on the early XC90. 13233 belongs on the later XC90. Bolt patterns and fascia notes are not a swap meet.

2015

Gap year honesty

We publish landers through 2014 and again from 2016. If you have a 2015, ask support with the VIN notes rather than guessing from a neighbour’s year.

XC60 notes

Shared titles carefully

13467 and 13268 mention XC60 on the same family of cards. Read the model line on the product page before you click buy.

Ratings

Volvo limit wins

Recharge and hybrid trims can change tow numbers. Size the trailer to Volvo’s published limit first, then trust the hitch as a ceiling.

Step 1Pick the generation

2003 through 2014 versus 2016 and newer — open the matching year lander.

Step 2Match hitch and wiring

13559 with 56045 on early years, or 13233 with 56285 on later years.

Step 3Watch shared cards

If 13467 also lists your year, confirm XC90 versus XC60 on the application.

Step 4Set tongue weight

Class 3 tube capacity is not a free pass past Volvo’s tongue limit.
