Tiguan years we publish (and the gaps)

We publish hitch year pages for 2018 through 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan. We do not currently publish early Tiguan hitch landers (for example 2012), and we do not stock a rear hitch for those earlier years in the CURT catalogue on this store — only a four-flat harness for some of them. We also do not have 2025 or 2026 Tiguan hitch landers yet.

2012–2017 Tiguan Wiring only on the shelf today: CURT 56422. No rear Class 2 or Class 3 hitch and no hitch year landers for those early trucks on this site. We will not invent a hitch SKU to fill the hole.

Class 2 versus Class 3 on a Tiguan

Smaller opening

CURT 12177 · Class 2

1.25 inch receiver. Trailer weight on the hitch card is in the same ballpark as the Class 3 option, but tongue weight is lower (about 350 lb on the card). Accessories must match the smaller shank — many popular 2 inch bike racks will not slide in without a carefully rated setup you should not assume.

CURT 13381 · Class 3

2 inch receiver and higher tongue-weight headroom on the hitch card (about 525 lb). That is usually the sweeter fit when you want common ball mounts, cargo carriers, or a bike rack that expects a 2 inch shank — still inside Volkswagen’s limits. CURT also notes this hitch is not for vertical-hanging bike racks that suspend bikes upright from the arms.
