A dedicated install for the later CURT 13284 Class 3 is not on the channel today, so the selection, technique, and wiring clips cover the habits you still need on a 2016–2023 CX-9.

CX-9 years we publish (and the gaps)

Mazda’s CX-9 split cleanly between an early generation and the 2016 redesign. We publish hitch year pages for most years from 2007 through 2023, with two honest holes: 2012 and 2015 landers are not live. The nameplate ended after 2023 in North America, so 2024 and newer CX-9 hitch landers are not something we invent.

Years What we usually stock
2016–2023 CX-9 Class 3: CURT 13284 with a 2 inch receiver (card ratings typically about 4,000 lb trailer and 600 lb tongue for weight-carrying use, with higher weight-distribution figures on the sheet). Class 2 option: CURT 12156 with a 1.25 inch receiver for lighter racks. Wiring: CURT 56338 for listed 2016–2023 years.
2007–2015 early CX-9 Class 3: CURT 13575 for listed early years (store title often reads through 2014; the card and install coverage reach the early generation — confirm your year). Typical card ratings are about 4,000 lb trailer and 400 lb tongue. Wiring: CURT 56016 — shared Mazda applications are listed on the card, so confirm CX-9 before you buy. Lander gaps No live hitch year pages for 2012 or 2015. No 2024 or newer CX-9 landers. Do not borrow a neighboring year page and assume it fits.

Never exceed Mazda’s tow rating for your CX-9 trim and drivetrain. Many CX-9 tow packages sit well below hitch brochure numbers — the vehicle limit still wins.

Canada checklist

  • Size the trailer to Mazda’s rating first — CX-9 is a three-row crossover, not a half-ton truck.
  • Watch generation boundaries — 2015 and earlier do not share the 13284 card with 2016 and newer.
  • Plan for salt season — rinse the receiver and plug it when spring arrives.
  • 2012 and 2015 owners should confirm fitment on the product card because landers are missing.
