CURT Front Hitches for Plows, Winches and Bike Racks

Five hundred pounds of tongue weight, 9,000 pounds of straight-line pull, and a two-inch hitch opening tucked out of sight behind the front bumper. That is what a CURT front hitch adds to a Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500, Chevrolet Colorado, or GMC Canyon. It carries a plow that slides into that opening with room to spare, gives a winch a solid mount on the frame, and keeps the rear hitch free for the snowmobile trailer.

CURT also rates every one we sell for 5,000 pounds of trailer, so you can push a boat into the water where you can see every inch of it, or hook a tow strap and pull a neighbour out of the ditch. The hitch bolts to the frame and sits tucked behind the bumper, so when the plow is off you barely see it and the truck looks like it left the factory. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada, and it lands in 2 to 5 business days.

What a front hitch carries

Push the driveway clear

A plow that fits the two-inch hitch opening slides in and pins in place, which means the blade comes off in April and the hitch goes straight back to summer work. Size the plow by weight. It has to stay under the 500-pound tongue rating, and a typical 85-inch plow built for this kind of hitch weighs about 328 pounds, so you have more than 170 pounds to spare. Your truck's front axle limit on the door sticker is the other check, and you use whichever number is lower.

Mount a winch, pull it off in spring

WARN sizes a truck winch at the truck's maximum weight on the door sticker times 1.5, so a truck rated for 6,000 pounds needs a 9,000-pound winch, and that matches the straight-line pull CURT gives these front hitches. On a heavier truck the math goes past 9,000, and the hitch rating is still the ceiling for any pull through the front hitch. A winch mount that pins into the hitch comes out with the hitch pin, so the winch can ride on the truck in February and sit on the garage shelf in June. That is recovery gear bolted to the frame, right where it belongs.

Carry bikes, keep the rear hitch towing

Once the snow melts, the same two-inch opening takes a bike rack or a cargo carrier, so the rear hitch stays on the camper or the boat all summer. The front hitch also lets you push a trailer into a tight spot or into the water where you can see every inch of it, and CURT rates it for 5,000 pounds of trailer when you do. Two hitches, one truck, no swapping.

Built for road salt

A front hitch rides low under the bumper, right in the spray off the front tires, so from November to April it lives in slush and road salt. CURT designs, welds and coats every one in Wisconsin. Each one gets a liquid rust-proof coating inside and out, then a black powder coat on top, which means salt that works into the hitch meets two layers of protection instead of bare steel. That coating is what you will care about in March. Most of them are also open at the back of the tube, so a garden hose flushes the grit out in spring, and every one is tested to SAE J684, the safety standard trailer hitches are built to. Keep a hitch cover in the opening between jobs so salt and grit do not pack in before the next storm.

Find the one for your truck

Every CURT front hitch is built for one truck, which is why the brackets line up with your frame and the main body tucks up out of sight. Each of the six we sell for these trucks carries the full 500-pound tongue, 5,000-pound trailer and 9,000-pound pull rating.

The 2015 to 2021 Ford F-150 and the 2018 to 2020 Ford Expedition share one hitch. It fits every Ford Expedition in those years and every Ford F-150 except trucks with the air dam that drops down on its own under the bumper, and the install needs a small trim of the plastic on the lower bumper cover.

On the 2022 to 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the hitch fits every truck except the LTZ, High Country, ZR2, diesel and Max Trailering Package, and on the GMC Sierra 1500 it fits everything but the AT4, AT4X, Denali, Elevation, diesel and Max Trailering Package. CURT puts that install at about an hour. The 2019 to 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, along with the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD and GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, take an earlier hitch that fits every engine except the 2.7L and 3.0L, skips the Sierra Elevation, and needs a small trim of the plastic lip under the bumper.

Every 2020 to 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and GMC Sierra 3500 HD takes the same heavy-duty hitch, any trim and any engine. No exceptions.

Every 2019 to 2024 Ram 1500 takes its hitch except the Rebel and the diesel, and every 2015 to 2022 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado takes the midsize hitch, with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 as the only exception.

We don't sell a CURT front hitch for the 2022 and newer Ford F-150, the 2021 and newer Ford Expedition, the 2025 and newer Ram 1500, the 2023 and newer Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, or the trims CURT leaves out. Send us your VIN and we'll tell you straight what fits your truck. The same goes for older trucks, since we carry front hitches back to the 2004 Ford F-150, the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.

What truck owners ask us

Will a plow work on this hitch?

Yes. The hitch carries 500 pounds on the tongue and a typical 85-inch plow built for this kind of hitch weighs about 328 pounds, so the blade rides with room to spare. Your truck's front axle limit is the other check, and CURT's numbers never go past what the truck maker allows.

Can I winch off it?

You bet. CURT rates the hitch for 9,000 pounds of straight-line pull with a winch mount, tow hook or recovery shackle, so a straight pull out of a snowbank is the job it was built for. Size the winch at your truck's maximum weight on the door sticker times 1.5, and keep the pull through the hitch under 9,000 pounds.

Do I lose my rear hitch?

No, and that is the whole point. The front hitch is a second two-inch hitch, so the snowmobile trailer stays on the back while the plow or winch works the front.

Is it hard to install?

No. Each hitch bolts to the frame with the hardware in the box, and CURT puts the 2022 to 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 install at about an hour. The 2015 to 2021 Ford F-150 hitch needs a small trim of the plastic on the lower bumper cover, and the 2019 to 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 hitch needs a small trim of the plastic lip under the bumper, so plan that into the job.

How fast does it ship?

Fast. Shipping is free anywhere in Canada, and the hitch arrives in 2 to 5 business days.

Finish the setup

Put a hitch cover in the front hitch the day it goes on, because an empty opening packs with salty slush all winter and a cover keeps it clear for the plow pin. Then sort the back of the truck, since trailer wiring installed now means the snowmobile trailer is ready the first weekend the trails open. Front for the snow, back for the trailer, and the truck is ready for both.
