Salt, plugs, and pins

Road brine eats receiver tubes, hitch balls, and trailer plugs. Rinse the hitch and seven-way after salted trips. A dab of dielectric grease on plug pins slows corrosion. Store ball mounts indoors when you can.

Cold batteries and brakes

Breakaway batteries lose punch in deep cold. Keep the charger healthy and test the breakaway switch before a long winter haul. Trailer tires also harden in the cold — confirm pressure cold, not after a highway run.
