Lights go dim, turn signals skip, or the whole trailer goes dark until you wiggle the connector. A dirty plug is not always a dead harness — but ignoring it until spring is how a cheap connector becomes a melted socket.
Look at both halves. The vehicle socket and the trailer plug both collect grit. If only one side is green, clean or replace that side first. If both sides look like they sat in a salt pile, budget for a connector pair and a careful dielectric-grease habit after the metal is clean and dry.
Dielectric grease is a moisture barrier on clean contacts, not a cure for active green crust. Clean the pins first. Dry them. Then a thin film of dielectric grease can slow the next round of corrosion. Packing grease into a dirty plug just seals the problem in place.

If wiggling fixes it, the plug or socket is the suspect — not the controller, not the hitch class.
