Corroded trailer plugs cause dim lamps, dead pins, and false fuse blows. Clean contacts, protect with dielectric grease, and replace a plug that is cracked or green with crust.

Clean method
Disconnect, dry, and clean pins with appropriate electrical contact cleaner. Do not pour water into the socket. A soft brush helps on crusty seven-way blades.
Protect
A thin film of dielectric grease slows salt damage. Cover the vehicle socket when unplugged. Recheck after the first salted-road week each winter.
