When a reducer is okay
Light bike racks on a two-inch tube can use a rated reducer into a one-and-one-quarter shank when the accessory rating still covers the load. Pin through the sleeve and shank as designed.
When to avoid it
Loaded e-bike racks, heavy cargo, and towing mounts deserve native shank sizes. The reducer capacity often becomes the new lowest number in the chain.
