Install Techniques
How CURT wants you to raise a hitch, start fasteners, and work methodically under the vehicle.
Watch on YouTube →Installing a trailer hitch this weekend in Canada? Print this checklist, watch the CURT videos, and decide before lunch whether the job still belongs in the driveway or at a shop. Free shipping on CURT towing gear from Lots of Parts means the box can arrive before Saturday — the torque wrench and patience still have to come from you.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Watch them Friday night so Saturday is hands-on, not YouTube-on-the-phone under the bumper.

Watch on YouTube →Many crossover and SUV hitches need fascia work. Cold Canadian plastic cracks — warm it and mark cut lines.

Watch on YouTube →CURT novice estimates on many Class 3 sheets land around 30–90 minutes once you know the vehicle. Real first-timers in a cold driveway often need a half day when fascia, exhaust hangers, and seized bolts show up. Block the whole afternoon. If you must leave for dinner with the hitch half on, you planned the wrong day.
Level ground, parking brake, wheel chocks, jack stands. Remove trim only in the order the sheet describes.
Raise it into place before you commit hardware. Confirm hole alignment without forcing anything.
Start every fastener by hand. Torque in the pattern and values on the sheet — not “good and tight.”
Trim or reinstall fascia carefully. Plug in the harness, then test lights with a helper before you celebrate.
Under-torqued hitch bolts work loose on gravel roads. Over-torqued bolts stretch and fail later. Use the CURT values, a calibrated wrench, and a second pass after the hitch has settled. Mark each nut with paint so a future you can see movement.
Stopping is not failure. Driving away with a half-installed hitch is.
