Towing
Axle U-bolts clamp the axle to the springs. Loose or rusty U-bolts let the axle shift. Inspect torque and rust each season, and replace damaged hardware as a set.

Inspection
Look for elongated holes, flattened threads, and shifted spring seats. Retorque to the trailer maker values after the first loaded trips on a new install.
Replacement
Do not reuse badly corroded U-bolts. Match diameter and shape. Canadian salt attacks these clamps — a spring undercoat rinse helps.
