How to Use CURT Install Videos (Canada)
Bought a CURT hitch SKU and now you need the right install video? Start with the part number on the box or product page, then search the official CURT YouTube channel for that SKU or for the general install techniques video when a model-specific clip is thin. This Canada page shows how to find the right video, what to watch for on fascia, torque, and exhaust, when DIY still needs a shop, and how to pair the weekend checklist with fascia trim tips before you block a driveway day.
Both embeds below are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use the install techniques video for hardware and torque habits, then the fascia trim video when the instruction sheet mentions bumper plastic.
If an embed does not load, use the YouTube link under the card.
Trailer Hitch Installation Techniques
CURT · Install habits
Watch for hardware order, torque mindset, and how CURT wants you to support the hitch while you start bolts. Pause when the video shows fish-wiring or frame-rail access so you can match it to your SKU sheet.
Use this when the instruction PDF shows a template or cut line in the bumper cover. Measure twice, cut once, and do not invent a larger opening than the sheet shows.
How to find the right CURT install video for your SKU
Open the product page for your hitch and write down the five-digit CURT part number. On YouTube, search the CURT channel for that number first. Many Class 3 truck and SUV hitches have a model-specific install clip. Compact Class 1 cards are more often covered by the general installation techniques video plus the printed instruction sheet that ships with the hitch or downloads from the product page.
If the SKU search comes up empty, search the vehicle year and model on the CURT channel next, then fall back to the general techniques video. A wrong-vehicle video can still teach torque habits, but it should not replace the instruction sheet for your exact part number. When in doubt, trust the PDF that matches the SKU you bought.
Step 1Write the SKU
Copy the CURT part number from the box, packing list, or product page before you dig through YouTube.
Step 2Search CURT only
Filter to the official CURT channel so you are not watching a random reseller edit of the wrong hitch.
Step 3Match the sheet
Pause the video next to the instruction PDF. Hardware order and exhaust notes should agree.
Step 4Plan the day
Open the weekend checklist, stage tools, and decide early if fascia work belongs in a shop.
What to watch for in the video
Topic
What we tell shoppers
Fascia and bumper cover
Look for template lines, heat-gun tips, and whether the receiver needs an opening in the plastic. Pair with fascia trim tips before you cut.
Torque and hardware
Watch bolt grade callouts, washer order, and final torque. A snug impact pass is not the same as the torque values on the sheet.
Exhaust clearance
Pause when the video shows exhaust hangers or heat shields. Some cards exclude dual exhaust or center exhaust for a reason. See dual exhaust fitment.
Fish wire and access
Note whether the video uses fish wire into a closed frame rail. Stage the right fish wire before you are under the car with cold hands.
Safety stands
CURT install clips assume a stable lift or jack stands. A shaky bumper jack is not a plan for Canadian driveway work.
Wiring later
Hitch video first, then a separate wiring harness video or the harness instruction sheet. Do not splice by memory from a different year.
When DIY still needs a shop
Novice-rated hitch cards with clear underbody access are fair DIY for a patient home mechanic with torque tools and a second set of hands. Call a shop when the card lists advanced install time, when fascia trim sits on a painted bumper you are not ready to own, when exhaust must be dropped, or when rusted factory hardware turns every bolt into a fight. Canadian winter salt makes seized hardware more common than the sunny install video suggests.
Also pause DIY if the vehicle has a factory tow package you are trying to keep, a hybrid or EV high-voltage warning near the rear, or a bumper sensor harness you do not want to guess on. Paying a shop for one hour of clean install is cheaper than a cracked fascia or a warning light that will not clear.
Checklist
Weekend install
Print the weekend install checklist so tools, torque, and test-fit steps are on paper before YouTube starts playing.

Fascia trim tips
Read hitch fascia trim tips when the instruction sheet shows a cut. The CURT fascia video above is the visual companion.
Day before: download the instruction PDF for your SKU, watch the CURT techniques video once all the way through, and stage torque wrench, fish wire, penetrating oil, and a helper. Install day: follow the sheet step order, pause the video at each matching scene, and stop if something on the car does not match the PDF. After torque: check clearance on exhaust and spare, then move to wiring if that is part of the job.
If you bought the hitch from Lots of Parts, keep the packing list handy so the SKU on the invoice matches the sheet and the video search. Free shipping on live CURT gear does not change the need for careful install habits.
