A taillight converter combines vehicle circuits so a trailer plug gets the right turn and stop signals. Use one when the vehicle lacks a dedicated tow circuit, and prefer a vehicle-specific CURT harness when it exists.

When you need a converter
Older vehicles and some imports need a converter so trailer lights do not back-feed. Many modern trucks already have a tow circuit — a T-connector harness is cleaner there.
Install notes
Follow the CURT wiring diagram. Protect grounds. A powered converter needs a healthy battery feed and fuse. Test with a plug tester before you blame the trailer.
