Most mysterious trailer light bugs are grounds. Bond the harness ground to clean bare metal on the vehicle, keep trailer frame grounds tight, and clean corrosion before you replace lamps.

Vehicle side
Follow the CURT harness ground instruction. Painted undercoating is not a ground. Scrape to bare metal, tighten the ring terminal, and protect with dielectric grease where appropriate.
Trailer side
Frame grounds for lamps loosen with vibration. Retighten and clean each spring after salted roads. A tester at the plug separates vehicle-ground issues from trailer-ground issues quickly.
