Inspect before every launch

Look for UV cracks, pulled stitches, and a deformed hook. A strap that has been overloaded once can look fine until it snaps under the boat. Keep a spare strap in the truck in season.

Winding habits

Wind under light tension so the strap stacks evenly. Do not grab the strap near the hook under load — use the bow eye and winch handle. Rinse lake water and road salt off webbing and the drum.
