Trailer light problems often start at a fuse, not at the bulbs. Find the tow-package or harness fuse in the vehicle panel, confirm the CURT harness inline fuse if one exists, then test the plug before you rewire the trailer.

Where to look

Start with the owner-manual fuse chart for trailer or tow package fuses. Many CURT T-connector harnesses also include an inline fuse on the converter module. A four-way or seven-way tester at the vehicle plug tells you if power leaves the truck before you blame the trailer.

After you find the fuse

Replace with the same amp rating. If the new fuse blows immediately, stop and hunt a short — often a pinched harness or a corroded trailer plug. Canadian salt makes plug corrosion a prime suspect each spring.
