Side marker lights help other drivers see the trailer length at night. When a marker fails, check the bulb or LED, the ground, and the feed from the taillight circuit before you replace the whole lamp housing.

Quick diagnosis

If one marker is out, swap the bulb or test the LED feed. If a whole side is dark, chase the ground and the side-marker wire from the plug. Magnetic temporary light kits help when a trailer harness is damaged mid-trip.

Salt and moisture kill lamp sockets. Clean grounds to bare metal. Seal lamp bodies if the design allows. Recheck markers after the first salted-road week each winter.
