Trailer sway is the side-to-side wag that shows up in crosswinds, at highway speed, or after a bad pass. Fix loading and tongue weight first. Then add friction sway control or a WD kit with sway features when the trailer still needs help.

Load first, hardware second

Sway often starts with tongue weight that is too light, gear stacked behind the axle, or a trailer that is nose-high on the ball. Aim for the trailer maker tongue-weight window, level the trailer with the right ball mount drop, and keep heavy cargo forward of the trailer axle. Hardware cannot save a badly loaded trailer.

Friction sway control links the ball mount or WD head to a bracket on the trailer tongue. It resists the pivoting that starts a wag. Some weight-distribution systems build sway resistance into the head. Check the product page for hitch-ball clearance and coupler compatibility before you buy.
