How to Select a Trailer Hitch
Why a compact Chevy crossover often lands in Class 1 for older Trax years, and why CURT’s newer Trax card steps to a 2 inch Class 3 tube even when hitch-side numbers stay modest.
Watch on YouTube →Shopping a trailer hitch for a Chevy Trax in Canada? The first-generation years (roughly 2015 through 2022) already have a live CURT Class 1 hitch and matching year pages on this store, plus a four-flat wiring harness for listed 2019 through 2022 LED-taillight trucks. The redesigned Trax that CURT lists under a Class 3 card for 2024 through 2026 is a different story — that hitch and its wiring are not on our Shopify shelf yet. This guide separates those paths so you do not order the wrong generation.
All four videos are from the official CURT YouTube channel (@curtmfg). Use them for class selection, install habits, wiring basics, and ball-mount height before you dig into Trax-specific cards below.

Watch on YouTube →General install habits. Finish with the instruction sheet for your exact SKU — older Trax Class 1 notes and newer Class 3 notes are not interchangeable.

Watch on YouTube →Older Trax Class 1 uses a 1.25 inch opening. CURT’s published newer Trax Class 3 card uses a 2 inch opening. Match the shank to the tube you actually bolt on.
Watch on YouTube →For listed 2015 through 2022 Chevrolet Trax years (and matching Buick Encore years on the same card), CURT 11527 is a Class 1 hitch with a 1.25 inch receiver. Hitch-side numbers on that family sit around 2,000 lb trailer and 200 lb tongue. Chevrolet’s published tow and tongue numbers for your trim still win. That hitch is active on Lots of Parts today.
CURT 56419 is the custom four-flat wiring harness written for listed 2019 through 2022 Trax years with LED taillights. It is also active here. If your Trax uses different lighting, confirm the harness notes before you order.
For the redesigned Trax that CURT lists for 2024 through 2026, CURT 13585 is the published Class 3 hitch with a 2 inch receiver (same modest hitch-side trailer and tongue neighbourhood, different tube size). CURT 56514 is the published four-flat for those newer years. Neither 13585 nor 56514 is an active Shopify product on this store in this pass.
CURT’s notes on both Trax hitch families call out that they are not compatible with vertical hanging bicycle racks. Tray-style racks still need the hitch sheet and your rack maker’s rules. Bike-only shoppers should also skim the hitch for bike rack only guide.
